Vaccinations & Deworming

Vaccinations are important for your puppy because it protects them from deadly illnesses and possibly death. This is why it is so important to keep your dog up to date on all of the necessary vaccines. Understanding which vaccines are necessary are a key component to your dog's health and survival. It is important for you to conduct your own research, talk to other pet owners, and various veterinarians in order to understand the role vaccines play in the safety of your dog.

The vaccine schedule followed at Luxe Yorkshire Terriers is as follows:

6 weeks - Neopar (parvo only) - this vaccine works with moms immunity to start giving your puppy immunity against parvo.

9 weeks - 5-Way vaccine (canine distemper, adenovirus type1 - Hepatitis, adenovirus type2 - respiratory disease, parainfluenza, parvovirus)

Your puppy will come home with two Parvo vaccines already which is very important because Parvo is a very scary and almost always deadly disease.

Recommended vaccine schedule after you take your puppy home:

16 weeks - 5-Way vaccine

It is of utmost importance that you follow up with your veterinarian make sure your puppy is UTD on all the necessary vaccines so they have full immunity.

NEVER give the leptospirosis vaccine to a Yorkie puppy or adult as it can be dangerous to small breeds. This vaccine is not necessary unless your dog is going to go roaming in the woods and come in contact with raccoons, etc. This vaccine could kill your Yorkie!

While it is critical that you make sure your Yorkie is kept up-to-date (UTD) with his/hers vaccines, it is just as important to keep a proper and timely deworming schedule for your puppy or dog.

Every single dog has worms and parasites, they occur naturally in their gut, in the ground, in water., and pretty much anywhere your dog sticks his/her nose.

ALL puppies have worms and parasites that they get from their mother when her milk comes in and they begin to nurse. Worms are very common in dogs and you should not be alarmed if you find one. They key is to worm your puppy on a regular basis as per you particular veterinarian's instructions and/or get fecal samples tested by your veterinarian in order to make sure the parasite or worm numbers remain are low.

The deworming schedule followed at Luxe Yorkshire Terriers is as follows:

4 weeks wormed with Pyrantel Pamoate

6 weeks wormed with Pyrantel Pamoate

8 weeks wormed with Fenbendazole

10 weeks wormed with Fenbendazole

As always, make sure and consult with your vet about any concerns you may have and to follow up to make sure your puppy is UTD on their vaccines/health

Always consult your veterinarian with any questions or concerns or if you suspect your pet may have a parasite infestation.
